The Health Club CLT is an upscale boutique fitness and recovery space in east Charlotte. Drawing heavy inspiration from luxury brands like Equinox, it combines an elite open gym floor and unlimited group fitness classes with a premium spa experience, featuring a dry sauna, steam room, hot tub, and cold plunge.
The Charlotte Gym You May Have to Wait to Join
Founding memberships at The Health Club sold out in five minutes. That was before the doors opened in February 2025, and 627 memberships went in that first batch, including 211 couples. The club capped its roster at roughly 1,100 at launch. By mid-2026 it had grown to about 1,800 members with a waitlist of around 500 people, and the ownership had begun scouting SouthPark, Lake Norman, and Fort Mill for a second site. Anyone evaluating this club should check availability before anything else.
Recovery Is the Reason, Not an Amenity
Most Charlotte gyms treat recovery as something bolted on. Here it is structural. The men’s and women’s locker rooms connect through a shared co-ed area holding in-ground cold plunge pools and hot tubs, and each locker room carries its own dry sauna and eucalyptus steam room. Members consistently describe the sauna as running genuinely hot, which sounds minor until you have used the tepid ones elsewhere. The design intent is that a member finishes training and moves directly into contrast therapy without changing buildings or paying a second membership, which in this city usually means a separate contrast-therapy studio subscription on top of a gym.
An 18,000-Square-Foot Floor Plan Across Two Levels
The ground floor holds the open gym: strength equipment, a cardio section, free weights, and turf. Upstairs, three separate studios handle group programming, split by discipline rather than sharing one multipurpose room. One is configured for circuit training and bootcamp, one for yoga in both heated and unheated formats, and one for reformer Pilates. Unlimited reformer access is priced as an add-on to standard membership rather than included. Personal training runs alongside the class schedule. Reviewers note the floor rarely feels crowded even at peak hours, which is the practical dividend of a capped membership.
Built by a Charlotte Native Who Trained at Barry’s
Addy Collett Hakim opened The Health Club at 29, after working in fitness studios around the city and running her own personal training brand. She has described the project as filling a gap she experienced herself: no single Charlotte membership let someone lift, take a class, work with a coach, and recover in one place. The design references Equinox and Miami’s Anatomy Fitness, and the intended member is what she calls the healthy hustler, meaning early risers and high achievers who want the space to look considered as well as function. The buildout took roughly a year and a half.
Why Oakhurst Turned Out to Be a Smart Address
The club sits in Building 5 at 4000 Monroe Road, inside the Oakhurst Commons development alongside Mood House, Switchyards, and a handful of restaurants. It is a five-minute drive from Cotswold, Plaza Midwood, Elizabeth, and Eastover, and it sits between Myers Park and a stretch of east Charlotte that had no comparable facility. That catchment is a large part of why demand outran capacity so quickly.
Hours, Day Passes, and Current Standing
Doors open at 5 a.m. Monday through Friday, closing at 9 p.m. early in the week and 8 p.m. Friday, with 7 a.m. weekend openings running to 5 p.m. Saturday and 7 p.m. Sunday. Day passes are available for visitors, and out-of-town reviewers regularly use it while traveling. As of August 2026 the club holds a 4.8 rating across 42 Google reviews, with equipment condition, cleanliness, and the recovery area drawing the most comment.
